Daniel Basco Suspends Campaign for
Chicago Board of Education, District 2B

For Immediate Release

Oct 11, 2026

CHICAGO—Today, I am suspending my campaign for the Chicago Board of Education District 2B seat.

As we look at the landscape 23 days until the election, we have come to the disappointing conclusion that we do not have a path to victory. I promised results, not rhetoric, in this campaign. The result that matters most now is voters having a clear choice before early voting expands to every ward on October 19. That is why I am stepping aside today.

In every conversation and debate during this campaign, we fought for community-focused solutions grounded in data and research. We pushed for an actual plan to fully fund our schools, one built on multiyear budgets and a year-round strategy for securing support in Springfield. We pushed to face declining enrollment honestly, to build plans at the community level, and to ensure that we always protect our most vulnerable students. That includes our LGBTQ+ students, who deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated in every school in this district.

Because ballots are already printed and voting is underway, my name will still appear on the ballot. I have shared my endorsement for Kyna and I hope you will take a look before you vote.

Thank you so much to the volunteers, donors, parents, and voters who supported this campaign. Truly, the best part of this campaign was meeting so many like-minded neighbors who care about our democracy and supporting our students.

Our students deserve the best, and we can do so much more if we put their interests first and face our challenges honestly. I am stepping aside from this race, not stepping away from this work. I will keep fighting for our community, our students, and the strong public schools every neighborhood in this city deserves.
